About Élise

An imaginative practice of close attention

Élise Carpentier creates finely detailed watercolours and mixed-media paintings in which the familiar and the fantastical frequently share a world. Animal companions, radiant faces, elaborate ornaments, and enigmatic figures appear among gardens, forests, and imagined landscapes.

Her paintings reward slow looking. Intricate surfaces reveal repeated marks, delicate patterns, and subtle colour transitions, often produced through sustained work over many hours.

How the work takes shape

Élise’s practice includes traditional painting and, in some works, AI-assisted visual ideation as part of the early compositional process. She then develops and paints her own interpretation by hand. This distinction matters: the works presented here are physical paintings, and the qualities of pigment, surface, repetition, and time are essential to their making.

One particularly detailed watercolour, featuring a luminous figure surrounded by flowers and reflective forms, took hundreds of hours to create. Élise later gifted it in gratitude to someone important in her life.
